Issuance and Closing Dates

Published 12 times annually. If ad proof is desired, printing material must be received 7 days before closing date; set copy 10 days in advance. No cancellations after closing date. Guidelines for Digital Ads

To insure print quality, please send files in the following format in a final resolution no less than 300 dpi/150 lpi, cmyk color mode: pdf (prinergy specs or print optimized), tif or eps. Digital files should be sent on CDs (ISO 9660 or Mac Files and Folders formats preferred), or Zip disks. The customer should provide a composite laser for prepress proofing to avoid reflow or corruption mistakes.

Plant Services is saddle-stitched.

Printing Specifications

Web offset. SWOP specifications apply. All images/ scans must be in CMYK mode and scanned at a final resolution of 300 dpi/150 lpi. Pantone colors must be converted to CMYK mode, all Pantone colors will be converted to CMYK by default unless the customer has specified otherwise.

Color Density

Two-color wet printing: the sum percentages of tone values should not exceed 170% and only one color may be solid. SWOP specifications apply. Fourcolor process wet printing: total density should not exceed 280%. SWOP specifications apply.

Color Proofing

Proofs (made from film) are required for all color ads. Matchprint Chromalin, Agfa or Watermark preferred; progressive proofs, press proofs and transfer keys acceptable. 3M color keys not acceptable for 4- color. If not furnished, reproduction and registration quality is at advertiser’s risk. Match color and 2-color ads require proofs to show color breaks. If color proof is not supplied, one will be pulled and billed at cost to advertiser. Proof 4-color material in black, cyan, magenta and yellow rotation. For 2-color, the darker, cleaner color should be first down. SWOP specifications apply.

Shipping Instructions

Contracts, insertion orders, proofs and instructions, all communications and printing material (except preprinted inserts) should be sent to: Rita Fitzgerald, Plant Services, Putman Media, Inc., 555 W. Pierce Road, Suite 301, Itasca, Illinois 60143. Shipping labels should specify the issue in which the ad is to be inserted. Use a “traceable” carrier on all printing material.

Inserts

Furnished by advertiser. Contact publisher for rates. Maximum weight of paper is 100 lb. on 25 x 38 basis. Minimum weight of paper is 70 lb. on 25 x 38 basis. When an insert is printed one side only and has to be backed up, there is a non-commissionable service charge. Other sizes available on request. Magazine trims 1/8″ off top, bottom and outside. Gutter grind-off is 1/8″ per page. Live area is same as ROP pages. Inserts furnished printed on one side should be furnished with same finish on both sides of the stock. Mechanical costs on handling uncoated or special finishes are available from publisher. Two-page-spread inserts to be backed up should be furnished folded; four-page spreads that are complete should be sent folded. All inserts must be received by closing date.
